ALGIERS-Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop hailed Monday in Algiers the “unifying role” that Algeria plays in the establishment of peace and reconciliation in Mali.
“Colonel Assimi Goita, President of the Transition, Head of State, appreciates the moderating and unifying role that Algeria plays and can play to continue to advance in the peace process in Mali,” said Diop after the audience granted him by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Mali’s FM said that President Tebboune, as usual, “spoke to us with great frankness and sincerity. He spoke to us about Mali, which he knows very well, as he would speak of Algeria, and shared with us his opinions.”
The same official said he was the bearer of “a message from Colonel Goita to his older brother President Tebboune, in which he wished him health and prosperity for the Algerian brotherly and friendly people.”
The message also reaffirms “the willingness of President Goita to strengthen the age-old ties of good neighborliness, brotherhood, friendship and solidarity between our two countries that are bound by a common destiny,” he stated.
He also stressed that Goita “will do everything so that relations between the two countries can evolve in the supreme interest of our two peoples, above all other considerations.”
“President Goita entrusted us with reaffirming to President Tebboune the commitment of the Malian government and people to continue to work for peace in Mali and to bring back the understanding between the Malian people to achieve development and peace.”
“He also entrusted with reiterating his deep gratitude and thanks to President Tebboune and Algeria for the role it plays as a mediator in this peace process (…),” he continued.
