DAVOS-KLOSTERS – Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said Tuesday in the World Economic Forum in Davos that the peace approach in Algeria has been supported by the implementation of
a “comprehensive policy of deradicalization.”
Speaking at the Forum, Messahel said that the “peace process in Algeria was supported by the implementation of a de-radicalization policy focused on the promotion of the national religious referent, namely a moderate Islam, the protection of the three components of the Algerian identity – Islam, Arabism and Tamazight- from all exploitation, the fight against extremist and sectarian discourse, and the permanent and structural struggle against the factors of the political, economic, cultural and social marginalization, exclusion or stigmatization, or any form of social injustice.”
He added that this policy “has been materialized through all the development programmes and strategies conducted by the State in the various fields of activity and has been done with the involvement of public institutions, the organizations of civil society, public and private economic sector and especially citizens.”
In this regard, the foreign minister recalled “the outcomes of this policy, notably the insignificant number of Algerian foreign terrorist fighters.”
Messahel recalled that Algeria “today is among the safest and most stable countries in the world, a fact that the Gallup Institute of Washington has affirmed by ranking Algeria seventh in the world in its 2016 and 2017 reports.”
