APS : Wednesday, 26 October 2022

ALGIERS-Algeria aspires to hold an Arab summit “based on common constants and reflecting the aspirations of Arab peoples to more solidarity, cohesion, and integration,” said Wednesday in Algiers the Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Nadir Larbaoui.
Larbaoui spoke at the meeting of permanent delegates and senior officials preparatory to the meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (MFA), in anticipation of the 31st session of the Arab Summit scheduled to take place in Algiers on 1 and 2 November.
“We aspire to hold a summit that can draw lessons from the past, collectively address the challenges of the present and look to the future with a comprehensive strategic vision to strengthen security and stability, through the establishment of bridges of constructive and positive cooperation with our Islamic and African world,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of adopting “a renewed approach to examine our agenda, rich in political issues, an effective and positive approach that allows us, collectively and consensually, to address these issues and submit relevant, practical and constructive draft decisions and recommendations to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs at their preparatory meeting for the Arab Summit.”
Today’s meeting is the prelude to “a series of preparatory meetings for the 31st Arab Summit, which will be held in Algeria after three (3) years of impediment,” said, recalling the developments, changes, and escalation of risks marking the regional and international scenes.
He also referred to “the health crisis and its impact on various aspects of life, the current international conflict and the state of acute polarization witnessed in international relations, leading to serious repercussions on the world order and multilateral relations in general.”
“In the face of these challenges, we must unify positions and develop a common vision to address the situation and the growing aspirations of the Arab peoples due to the continuation and escalation of crises, events, and regional and international developments. Moreover, we must urgently coordinate collective political and diplomatic efforts,” said Larbaoui.
He also stressed the importance of “activating, renewing and developing our common action mechanisms so that we can defend our interests, our just causes and our legitimate rights, with the Palestinian issue at the top of them.”
“We highly welcome the signing by the Palestinian factions of the Algiers Declaration, resulting from the Conference for the Unification of Palestinian ranks held recently in Algiers under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, “he said.
