Commission on Arab Women: Call for Arab consensus on Beijing declaration

ALGIERS- Arab delegations participating in the 38th session of the Commission on Arab Women, held Sunday in Algiers, have called for an “Arab consensus” around a unified statement on the
implementation rate of the declaration and action plan of the Beijing after 25 years.
Placed under the theme “Social Protection for Women Empowerment,” the 38th session of the Commission on Arab Women, chaired by Algeria under the aegis of the Arab League, highlighted the need to reach an “Arab consensus” resulting in a unified declaration on the implementation rate of the Beijing declaration and action plan after 25 years, to be presented during the 64th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, scheduled for March 2020.
The participants urged for transparent channels to promote exchange of Arab experiences and expertise in the protection of women and their rights.
They also called for combining Arab efforts in international and regional fora discussing the status of women, in addition to coordination and collaboration with relevant organizations.
