OUAGADOUGOU – Speaker of the National Popular Assembly (APN) Slimane Chenine, reiterated on Wednesday in Ouagadugou the willingness of the Algerian Parliament to “effectively” contribute to the joint parliamentary
action of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, aimed at developing cooperation and solidarity between peoples.
Chenine “reiterated the readiness of the Algerian parliament to contribute effectively to joint parliamentary action aimed at reinforcing cooperation among our States and solidarity between our peoples, to promote bilateral parliamentary interaction, to give concrete expression to our aspiration, to live in a world where peace and security prevail.”
The Lower House speaker was speaking at the 15th Conference of the Union of Assemblies of OIC Member States, held in the capital of Burkina Faso.
Chenine added that the “parliamentary diplomacy constitutes a real and effective tool to promote interaction between the legislative institutions of our States, within the framework of regional and international parliamentary unions.
We certainly have a very precious tool, which allows us to defend our just and legitimate causes, chiefly the Palestinian cause, to express our rejection of any foreign interference in our internal affairs, to defend our religious symbols and holy places, to protect the oppressed Muslim minorities around the world.”
In this perspective, Chenine stressed the need for the parliaments of Islamic countries to participate in the great debates around the challenges facing humanity, such as poverty, famine, epidemics, natural disasters, terrorism and regional and international security.
“They should also contribute to the promotion of the common potential in information and communication technologies”, he added.
