Camara: Guinea to assume AU chairmanship, “closely cooperate” with Algeria

ALGIERS-Guinea would assume the rotating chairmanship of the African Union (AU) on the occasion of the ordinary Summit of the pan-African organization in two weeks in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), and will “work in close cooperation”
with Algeria, Minister of State, Minister of Security and Civil Protection of the Republic of Guinea Abdoul Kabèlè Camara.
“Guinea will head up the African Union and will work in close cooperation with Algeria. Major actions will be carried in the interest of Africa,” Camara said following an audience with Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.
“We thank Lamamra and his collaborators who supported us and gave us comforting advice and information,” said Camara leading a large ministerial delegation.
“The President of the Republic of Guinea Alpha Condé will leave his fingerprint on the chairmanship of the AU, particularly in the fight against terrorism and instability in some African countries,” said the Guinean official, adding “we will join our efforts to meet challenges.”
The development challenge will also be considered in so far as “all African countries should join their efforts to address this challenge,” Camara said, stressing “security and stability, essential for development, will also be a focus point of this cooperation.”
As regards “historical” bilateral relations between Algeria and Guinea, the same official stressed the need “to further strengthen them,” hailing “major promising prospects that will lead to genuine actions in the future.”
Recalling he carries a message from President Kondé to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the same official said his country’s president “will surely pay an official visit to Algeria and this visit will be crowned by the signing of several agreements likely to boost bilateral cooperation.”
