ALGIERS- Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum took part Thursday, in New York, in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), as part of his participation in the 74th United National General Assembly,
said Friday a communiqué of Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Speaking in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, Boukadoum reaffirmed “Algeria’s commitment to multilateralism, foundations and spirit which prevailed at the creation of the movement, notably the respect of the principles of UN Charter, respect of territorial integrity, States’ sovereignty, peaceful resolution of disagreements and the right of peoples to self-determination in their struggle against foreign occupation.”
Organized under the theme “Defending sovereignty principles as means to preserve international peace and security and promote friendship relations and cooperation,” this meeting comes at the end of the term of office of the Venezuelan chairmanship of NAM and few weeks before the NAM Summit in Baku, on 25 and 26 October 2019.
Foreign minister insisted during this meeting on “the relevance of the movement’s founding principles in the face of the challenges imposed by globalization and unilateralism,” underlining “the movement’s historic contribution to the emancipation from colonization of nearly all its member countries.”
In this respect, he called on the movement to “support the Palestinian cause, to work for the completion of the decolonization process in Western Sahara and to continue supporting Western Sahara’s cause and the right of its people to self-determination.”
While broaching the crises and conflicts shaking the region, Boukadoum said that “Algeria is in favor of inclusive dialogue, political solutions and their appropriation by the parties to the conflict.”
Boukadoum called for further mobilization against terrorism and transnational crime and stressed “the urgent need to adopt reforms in the economic and sustainable development fields.”
