ALGIERS- Minister of Energy Mustapha Guitouni said Saturday that projects have been launched in gas and petroleum exploitation and renewable energies to give a fresh impetus to the investment process in border areas,
which are a national priority.
In an address at a national meeting on border areas’ development, held at Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Centre of Algiers by the ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Guitouni said his department has launched many energy projects for the exploitation of oil and gas and renewable energies, to enhance the investment process in border areas
“Algeria has carried out many investments in neighboring countries, such as Tunisia, Libya, Niger and Mali and exploits several fields in those countries through national corporation Sonatrach in order to give a boost to investments in those border areas, which have huge potentials,” the minister said in the event held under the slogan “Development in Border Areas: A National Priority.”
“After electricity power supply, Algeria is due to provide natural gas to Tunisia (Sakiet Sidi Youcef) while Libya is to be supplied with electricity in the late 2018, which will allow the creation of many investment projects in border provinces,” Guitouni disclosed.
The minister added that Sonatrach has also launched oil and gas projects in many border provinces like El Taref, Souk Ahras, Ouargla and El Oued, which will create “thousands of jobs.”
Two other projects have been lunched for gas and oil exploration in the provinces of Illizi and Bechar, in addition to the opening of four training centers specialized in hydrocarbon in the same areas.
