ALGIERS- Foreign Minister, Sabri Boukadoum, said Sunday that the Bandug Conference has marked the beginning of the participation of the National Liberation Front (FLN) in international forums to make the voice
of Algerian people heard and enable it recovers its sovereignty.
The Bandung conference “marked the beginning of the participation of representatives of the National Liberation Front (FLN) in international forums to make the voice of the valiant Algerian people heard and allow it to regain its sovereignty over its entire territory,” wrote Boukadoum in a tweet on his official account on the occasion of the celebration of the 66th anniversary of the Bandung conference, held in 1955.
The FM attached to this tweet a unusual to of the FLN delegation led by the late Hocine Ait Ahmed who participated in this conference that gave birth to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
This year, developing countries in particular and those from the Non-Aligned Movement will commemorate the 66th anniversary of this historic conference which had brought together, on the island of Java, Indonesia, from 18 to 24 April 1955, representatives of twenty-nine countries in Africa and Asia who had gained their independence.
During the ten years following the Bandung conference, 31 African countries, including Algeria, have gained their independence, marking the end of the colonial era, with the exception of Palestine, which still lives under the yoke of Israeli occupation, and Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, whose people are now leading a tough fight for self-determination.
The spirit of Bandung emerged six years later, in 1961 in Belgrade, with the creation of the Non-Aligned Movement, bringing together countries that did not want to be part of the logic of confrontation between the East and West blocs.
At the last virtual summit of heads of state and government of the NAM, held in May 2020, President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, had recalled that Algeria was “convinced that the success of the work and actions of the Movement will remain, forever, dependent on its unity and its respect for the diversity of its members, but also the enhancement of its ability to interact positively with the unbridled changes on the international scene.
The President of the Republic also seized the same opportunity to call on the United Nations Security Council “to meet, as soon as possible, and adopt a resolution solemnly calling for the immediate cessation of all hostilities throughout the world, including Yemen and Libya, without omitting the occupied territories in Palestine and Western Sahara.
