ALGIERS- The chairwoman of the Algerian Red Crescent, Saida Benhabiles, and her Iraqi counterpart, Yassine Ahmed Abbas Al-Maamouri, called Wednesday, in Algiers, for the “consolidation of the bilateral relations between the two bodies at the service of Iraqi and Algerian peoples.”
In a joint news conference held by the two sides at the headquarters of the Algerian Red Crescent, Benhabiles stressed the need to step up partnership between Algerian and Iraqi red crescents, especially with the current security situation in this sister country.
Mentioning Iraqi Red Crescent’s support to Algeria during the glorious liberation war against French occupation (1954-1962), the head of the Algerian Red Crescent said the Algerian aid today “comes in recognition of Iraq’s help (during the Algerian Revolution) and as part of the humanitarian duty.”
The chairman of the Iraqi Red Crescent praised Algeria’s positions in favour of oppressed peoples, expressed thanks for the humanitarian aid it had sent to Iraqi refugees a few months ago.
