Algerian architect Leila Hamroun-Yazid honoured in New York

NEW YORK – Algerian architect Leila Hamroun-Yazid has been honoured by the Society of Consuls General in New York (SOFC) for her important contributions in the field of ecological and sustainable architecture,
said the Consulate General of Algeria in New York in a statement.
Leila Hamroun-Yazid was awarded SOFC’s Certificate of Recognition in a ceremony on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps and consular authorities, the authorities of the host country, and Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women Condition, Ghania Eddalia.
Graduated from the Polytechnic School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Algiers, the Algerian-American Architect holds a Master’s degree from the Center for Higher Studies in History and Conservation of Monuments in Paris and a Master’s degree in Urban Affairs and Public Policy from the University of Delaware.
She is also the initiator of the practice “Past Forward Architecture”, which aims to promote preservation strategies of monuments and heritage sites and author of several research works on the risks of disasters on urban fabrics and adaptation of public policies to climate change.
She is the founder of “Past Forward Architecture”, a practice aimed to promote preservation strategies on heritage buildings and sites. Her career is uprooted in international portfolio of sustainable projects that respect the integrity, character and authenticity of a built environment.
Speaking at the ceremony in her capacity as vice-president of the SOFC’s African group, Algeria’s Consul General in New York, Sabria Boukadoum, praised the architect’s efforts in heritage preservation and civic and community engagement.
Architect Leila Hamroun-Yazid is fully dedicated in matters relating to our national community in the US. As a Board member of the Algerian American Foundation for Culture, Education, Science and Technology (AAF).
