Algeria-Mauritania: Signing of MoU for creation of bilateral border committee

NOUAKCHOTT- Algeria and Mauritania signed Thursday in Nouakchott (Mauritania) a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a bilateral border committee.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Kamel Beldjoud and his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould
Merzoug, in the presence of the Algerian Ambassador to Mauritania, Noureddine Khendoudi, the Wali (governor) of Tindouf, Youcef Mahyout, in addition to Mauritanian officials from different sectors.
This memorandum reflects the willingness of both countries to “strengthen relations of brotherhood, neighborhood and cooperation aimed at unifying Algeria and Mauritania.
In addition, the memorandum aims to “increase efforts and unify positions to address common risks, fight against cross-border crime and strengthen bilateral cooperation, reflected in an agreement
to create a large joint Algerian-Mauritanian committee for economic, cultural, scientific and technical cooperation, signed in Nouakchott on November 27, 1989.
It also includes the creation of a bilateral border committee comprising regions of competence, namely the province of Tiris Zemmour in Mauritania and Tindouf in Algeria.
