Algeria, Mauritania need to strengthen health cooperation

NOUAKCHOTT – Algeria and Mauritania renewed their willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of Healthcare services.
Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Abderrahmane Benbouzid leading a large delegation has paid a working visit to Mauritania.
This willingness has been expressed during a meeting bringing together Mauritanian Prime Minister, Mohamed Ould Bilal, Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, and Deputy Minister for Hospital Reform Ismail Mesbah.
The officials discussed the upcoming signing of an agreement in the health field.

They also reviewed a number of files relating to the health sector in both countries. The Mauritanian medical staff outlined the various “obstacles” which stand in front of the Mauritanian authorities in the fight against the Covid 19, citing in particular the “glaring lack” of oxygen therapy.
In this regard, the Mauritanian minister unveiled plans to create a production unit for this vital material, noting the importance of resorting to Algeria for the acquisition of drugs, before calling for the creation of working groups which will be responsible for defining the different areas of cooperation in the health sector.

The Mauritanian Health Minister called for the assistance of Algeria in the setting up a pandemic monitoring system, having a leading experience in this field.
Also, he pleaded for the strengthening of Algerian-Mauritanian cooperation in the field of hospital reform, training and scientific research, maintenance in addition to the exchange data in the health field.
