ALGIERS- Algeria is seeking to “heighten the Algerian-Mauritanian cooperation to the level of the two countries political willingness and capacities,” Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel said Sunday in Algiers.
Messahel and Deputy Minister to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, in charge of Maghreb and African Affairs and Mauritanians abroad Khadidja M’barek co-chaired the 12nd session of the Algerian-Mauritanian Follow-up Committee.
The meeting “illustrates the attachment of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz to pursue coordination and consultation to boost cooperation and conduct an objective and comprehensive assessment of the cooperation,” Messahel said.
It will help “set up a solid platform and prepare the files which will be submitted to the 18th session of the Algerian-Mauritanian High Joint Commission so to reach applicable recommendations and define projects likely to serve the two countries’ interests.”
Messahel said that the cooperation between the two countries is “promising,” stressing that “most recommendations resulting of the past meeting of the Commission have been applied” through visits.
He also hailed the security cooperation in terms of the fight against terrorism and the organized crime, notably training and exchange of intelligence.
As for her, Khadidja M’barek said that today’s meeting constitutes “an important stage in the assessment and the promotion of the bilateral cooperation in the service of both countries interests, besides the consolidation of the integration process within the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU).”
