ALGIERS- The challenges facing Algeria and Mali are “immense” hence the need for a strong cooperation to take them up, underlined Wednesday, in Algiers,
the secretary general of the Malian Ministry of Internal Security and Civil Protection Aser Kamate.
“The challenges are in fact immense hence the need for a strong cooperation to take them up,” he said in an address made at the opening of the 4th Algerian-Malian joint security committee.
Aser Kamate pointed out that the Algerian experience and expertise, in various fields, deserve to be “welcomed and exploited,” expressing the gratitude of “the Malian highest authorities to their Algerian counterparts for the role that it plays to strengthen cooperation and friendship ties.”
He stressed, as part of the strengthening of this cooperation, that various mechanisms were established through notably the high joint cooperation committee, the bilateral bordering committee and the joint committee on security, adding that our authorities’ frequent visits support these mechanisms.
The Malian official stressed the key role played by Algeria in the history of his country, notably in the peace negotiations through the implementation of the peace and reconciliation agreement, stemmed from Algiers’ process.
The agreement on peace and reconciliation in Mali, signed in a first phase in May 2015, and in a second phase in June 2015 by all the Malian parties in Bamako, was obtained after five rounds of negotiations, initiated in July 2014 under the leadership of an international mediation, led by Algeria.
He affirmed that the pertinent recommendations which will emerge from the meeting of the Algerian-Malian joint security committee will allow advancing in the fight against terrorism, the fight against organized cross-bordering crime, the fight against illicit crime trafficking and the strengthening of the “mutually beneficial” cooperation between the Algerian and Malian peoples.
