ALGIERS – The Ministry of the Interior, Local Assemblies and National Planning and the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) have signed on Monday in Algiers the contract for the “green communes” project execution to
support the communes in their efforts to boost the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
The project which aims at associating the municipalities in the execution of national energy transition programmes will concern four pilot communes in its segment relating to the elaboration of lasting energy plans and 30 pilot communes for the deployment of energy consumption control panels.
Speaking on this occasion, the Interior Ministry’s Secretary General Abdallah Moundji, said that this new cooperation project will provide a large number of provinces and municipalities with support and assistance in the implementation of their municipal energy plans as well as the improvement of energy consumption management processes.
It will also help develop teaching tools, sets of specifications and methodological guides to ensure the sustainability of facilities and the support for the establishment of an incentive regulatory framework favoring the implementation of economically-viable renewable energy projects for municipalities, he added.
In addition, the same manager said that the pilot municipalities selected “include a significant number of remote areas, thus constituting a great challenge for this project “.
