ALGIERS- Algeria and the European Union (EU) completed, last December, the assessment of their Association agreement, whereas the final document of this evaluation will be validated soon in Brussels (Belgium), a high official of the ministry of Foreign Affairs told APS Tuesday.
“We reached, on 7 December, the conclusion of the evaluation through a joint document which will be validated in the upcoming days in Brussels in the meeting of the Algeria-EU Association Agreement Council, co-chaired by the minister, Ramtane Lamamra and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini,” said the director of cooperation with the EU and the international institutions to the ministry of Foreign Affairs and international Cooperation, Ali Mokrani.
“We have worked well. It is an agreement of the two parties to relaunch their deep relations,” underlined Mokrani on the sidelines of a seminar to launch an institutional twinning between Algeria and Spain in the field of finances.
This document includes 21 recommendations allowing “the relaunch of cooperation between Algeria and EU with the aim of putting economic relations at the center of this cooperation, giving this agreement all its importance and using its huge potential in its three constituents: political, economic and human,” added the official.
According to him, these recommendations foresee several actions and cooperation axes “in order to put the Association Agreement back in the right direction.”
“It is a matter of “economic partnership in the sense of supporting the Algerian government’s efforts for the diversification of economy, the promotion of non-hydrocarbon exports, the development of the know-how economy, digital economy and the promotion of an inclusive social economy,” he added.
“It is also about the development of investment and partnership relations between the European and Algerian companies and the flow of productive direct European investments in Algeria,” he said.
Mokrani also said that Algeria and the EU also finalised another joint document focusing on the common priorities relating to the European neighbourhood Policy which will be approved in the meeting of the Algerian-EU Council of the Association Agreement.
