ALGIERS- The first Algerian-Cuban business Council, bringing together the two countries’ economic operators, will be set up on 19 June in Algiers, said Sunday director general of the Algerian Chamber
of Trade and Industry (CACI) Wahiba Bahloul.
“We will receive an important delegation of Cuban businessmen and economic operators next week, to set up officially the first joint business Council, scheduled for June 19th,” said Bahloul, on the sidelines of an information day on investment opportunities in Cuba, organized by CACI in collaboration with Cuban embassy in Algiers.
Underlining that the agreement on the creation of this business council was signed in May 2018, Bahloul said that this information day is part of the two countries’ willingness to raise their economic cooperation to a level which reflects “their excellent historical and political ties.”
The official added that this information day is an opportunity to promote the business opportunities in Cuba and put them in the viewfinder of the Algerian operators, pointing out that this country will participate in the next International Fair of Algiers (18-23 June) with a large delegation of economic operators from different sectors of activity.
The creation of a business Council will also be accompanied by the signing of a roadmap which will serve as a platform for the economic cooperation of the two countries in the next two years, affirmed Bahloul.
These actions, she added, will clarify to the Algerian businessmen the business opportunities existing between the two countries, adding that the priority sectors are Agriculture, agro-industry, medicines, medical equipment as well as tourism.
Bahloul underscored that that the talks aim at “attracting the Cuban operators,” adding that many of them are already present through several investments in Algeria.
For her part, Cuba’s ambassador to Algeria Clara Pulido Escandel affirmed that her country is “very interested” in the business opportunities in Algeria, calling for the implementation of “a common economic future between Algeria and Cuba which are already linked by a common history.”
