ALGIERS-Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing, Abdelkader Bouazghi, on Wednesday partook in a conference debate held at the US Congress in Washington,
during which he emphasized the achievements made by Algeria through agricultural development programmes implemented since 2000.
Speaking on this occasion, Bouazghi, who is on a working visit to the US until 18 January, presented the agricultural development programmes launched by President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika under the National Agricultural Development Programme (PNDA), “at a time when Algeria recovered peace and security thanks to the national reconciliation policy,” said the source.
This strategy has led to significant results that contribute to ensuring food security in the country through the development of many strategic sectors, said the source.
“The convincing results we got, which today enable our country to cover almost all of its vegetables, fruits and meat needs, show the relevance of the strategy adopted as evidenced by the rehabilitation of the agricultural activity and the multiple investment opportunities for a modern and productive agriculture,” said the minister.
Such achievements “encourage us to the efforts to diversify agricultural products to improve supply, cut imports and boost non-hydrocarbon exports,” through “a greater mobilization of funds and the involvement of private operators,” which are essential to revive investment in the sector, said Bouazghi.
On the sidelines of this meeting, Bouazghi attended the launch ceremony of the book entitled “Algeria and Transatlantic Relations.”
The delegation led by the Minister will visit major dairy, grain, forage, fruit and livestock farms and processing and packaging plants in California.
The presence of many economic operators in the US aims to engage in partnerships with their American counterparts, with a view to further enhancing cooperation in agriculture.
