AFRICOM commander: Algeria can play “very important role to ensure security, peace in the region”

ALGIERS – Algeria is a “reliable and strong partner” and it can play a “very important role to ensure security and peace in the region,” said Wednesday in Algiers General Stephen J. Townsend commander of United States Africa Command.
“Algeria is a reliable and very strong partner, and if I am here it is because we are convinced that Algeria can play a very important role to ensure security and peace in the whole region,” added the General following his meeting with President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Describing Africom’s relations with Algeria as “good”, General Stephen Townsend expressed the wish to “extend them to other areas”.
President Tebboune had received General Stephen Townsend, who was accompanied by members of the American Embassy in Algeria “.
