African Wrestling Championships (cadets – juniors): Algeria wins 52 medals, including 22 gold

ALGIERS- Algeria cadet and junior wrestlers won 52 medals (22 gold, 19 silver and 11 bronze) at the African Wrestling Championships, held at Tahar-Belakhdar sports hall in Cheraga, Algiers, from 15 to 17 July.
On the first day, the Algerian wrestlers snatched 19 medals (8 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze) in cadet female and Greco-Roman wrestling events.
In cadet events, Algerian wrestlers ranked second in team ranking with 9 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze), behind Egypt, which won 10 medals (7 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze) and ahead of Tunisia, which got 7 medals (4 silver and 3 bronze).
Algeria’s gold medals were claimed by Moutaleb Kebaili (50Kg), Ahmed Abdelhakim Merokhi (42Kg) and Ahmed Sami Chelbani (58Kg).
In freestyle wrestling, Algerian cadets won five gold, ahead of Egyptians who got four, while South Africans ended the competition with 13 medals overall (1 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze).
Algeria’s gold medals in cadet freestyle events were won by Abderraouf Benamara (42Kg), Mohamed Ali Amine (46Kg), Lyes Boukhors (58Kg), Taha Habib Merikhi (63Kg) and Ishak Boukhors (69Kg).
In female wrestling events, Algerian wrestlers claimed 10 medals overall (5 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze), ahead of Tunisia (5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze), while Egypt ranked third with four medals (3 silver and 1 bronze).
Algeria’s gold medals were snatched by Amel Hammiche (65Kg), Lina Khellal (60Kg), Hassiba Bekren (49Kg), Rayane Houfaf (52Kg) and Siwar Ben Ali (56Kg).
At the end of the third and last day of the continental tournament, the Algerian junior wrestlers have been crowned African team champion in Greco-Roman ad female wrestling.
The junior Greco-Roman wrestlers claimed 8 medals overall (4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze) ahead of Egyptians (4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze) and Tunisians, who got 3 silver.
Algeria’s four gold medals were won by Bachir Sid Azara (84Kg), Anis Chebli (50Kg), Mourtada Naanaa (55Kg) and Ghiles Saadoudi (60Kg).
In female wrestling, Algerian junior wrestlers also topped team ranking with nine medals overall (4 gold and 5 silver), ahead of Tunisians (2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze) and Egyptians (2 gold and 3 silver).
Algeria’s gold medals in female wrestling were snatched by Ibtissem Doudou (44Kg), Cheima Chebila (48Kg), Kheira Chaimaa Yahiaoui (51Kg) and Amel Hammiche (67Kg).
A total of 180 cadet and junior wrestlers (boys and girls) from ten African countries participated in the African Wrestling Championships in Algiers.
Algeria was represented by 55 wrestlers (24 cadet boys, 12 cadet girls and 19 juniors, including 6 girls).
