PARIS (France)- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel held discussions Wednesday, in Paris, with French minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault.
The spokesman of the French ministry of Foreign Affairs, Romain Nadal, had said the discussions “will mainly be an opportunity to tackle regional crises, especially in Libya and the Sahel.”
On the sidelines of the talks he held at the Quai d’Orsay, Messahel told APS and the Algerian TV this meeting follows a discussion with French FM on the sidelines of the Africa-France meeting in Bamako, as part of efforts to advance the peace process in Mali.
We exchanged views and stressed the need to encourage parties to implement the Algiers Agreement, said Messahel, adding that he discussed with Ayrault the situation in Libya.
“We also broached the situation in Libya and the efforts both parties can make part of a solution that preserves Libya’s unity, stability and sovereignty,” he stressed, saying the political agreement on Libya signed on 17 December 2015 must be implemented.
“It is up to the Libyans to implement this agreement,” Messahel stated, stressing we agree on the political solution.
We must work to reach an agreement on political solution between Libyans, all parties, neighbouring countries, members of the Security Council and Mediterranean countries, without interference in the country’s internal affairs.
