ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabri Boukadoum stressed Tuesday the key role of the non-aligned countries in the international efforts aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,
reaffirming Algeria’s unconditional support to the struggle of the Palestinian people until the recovery of their independence.

“We are firmly convinced that the non-aligned countries, because of their political and diplomatic weight, can and must play a key role in the international efforts aimed at dealing with the underlying source of the conflict and enforcing the international law,” said Boukadoum in his speech by videoconference at the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Committee on Palestine.

Boukadoum reaffirmed that “Algeria will continue to providing its unconditional support to the Palestinian people until they could fulfill their legitimate aspirations and their inalienable rights in their independent State of Palestine, with al-Quds as capital,” pointing out that NAM has always been an ardent defender of all peoples living under occupation.

“Our support to the Palestinian cause translates indeed our longstanding commitment to the values of the founding fathers of our Movement, and notably because it is a just cause,” he said, calling on, in this regard, the movement to act decisively at the UN Security Council, in order to significantly contribute to the efficient promotion of the group’s viewpoints within the Council.

Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum called on the UN Security Council and the international Quartet (EU, Russia, USA, UN) to renew their commitment in an approach based on rights, in order to create the appropriate conditions and atmosphere for the resumption of the peace process, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations.

“It is high time for the international community to assume its responsibility vis-à-vis the Palestinian people,” he stressed, saying he is convinced that there won’t be “any possibility of a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue without that the international community, notably the Security Council, takes a firm and courageous position to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination.”

In this respect, Boukadoum underscored that the heart of the problem lies in fact in the occupation of the Palestinian territories as well as in the maintenance of the status of impunity granted blatantly to the occupying power (Zionist entity), adding that the holding of this meeting shows the movement’s solidarity with Palestine and offers a good opportunity to think collectively about the last episode of aggressions committed by the Zionist occupier against the Palestinian people in the strip of Gaza and the occupied city of al-Quds.
