World Shotokan Karate Do Championship: Six Algerians compete in Sofia

ALGIERS- Algerian men’s national karate do team, made up of six athletes, will take part in the 24th World Shotokan Karate Do Championship (October 7-9) in Sofia, Bulgaria, with the participation of 65 countries.
National coach Islam Lazreg said his squad was likely to be among the leading teams at the event, both in Kumite and kata, adding that it was even able to snatch the world title.
“We are well prepared for the world tournament, as we have held seven training camps since June, he underlined.
“One week to the event, our athletes are ready to face the best nations in the sport, such as France, Germany and Italy.”
In the two previous World championships (Serbia 2013 and Poland 2014), Algeria managed to rank third.
In Africa championships 2016 in Egypt, the Algerian team ranked second, with (three gold, four silver and two bronze medals).
The athletes competing in Kumite are Islam Lazreg, Makin Flissi and Hichem Lazreg.
In Kata, the Algerian participating athletes are Abbas Ibrahim Benan, Lakhder Messaoudane and Mohamed Inouche.
