ALGIERS-Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House) Said Bouhadja on Wednesday affirmed that “Morocco’s allegations will not undermine the unalienable stance of Algeria on Western Sahara.”
In a speech he delivered during a parliamentary day under the celebration of the “International Day of Living Together in Peace;” Bouhadja said that “Morocco’s recent allegations will not undermine the unalienable stance of Algeria in favour of the Sahrawi cause.”
“These allegations caused outcry among the international community, reflecting Morocco’s failures, lies and inability to directly involve Algeria in a Conflict solved by the Security Council,” he continued.
The Lower House speaker recalled the UN Security Council’s position that underlined that “the self-determination issue must be the subject of direct negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco, without preconditions and in good faith, in order to find a just and sustainable solution guaranteeing the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.”
As a neighbouring country, Algeria will continue to fully support the efforts made by the UN Security Council and its Special Envoy to definitely settle the Sahrawi issue in accordance with international legality and the UN principles on decolonization,” stressed Bouhadja.
In this connection and under its humanitarian commitments, Algeria will provide Sahrawi refugees with assistance and will protect them pending a final solution to the conflict.”
“Despite long years of expectation for the UN peace process to be completed, the Sahrawi people have shown deep respect for the law, political commitment, peace, security and stability while seeking a solution to the conflict,” recalled Bouhadja.
This approach “earned the Sahrawi people respect and the international community’s consideration in the face of Morocco’s obstinacy, irresponsible actions and flight-forward policy despite great failures in regional and international forums.”
