Western Sahara: Algeria to participate in Geneva negotiations as neighbouring country, observer

NEW YORK- Algeria has accepted the invitation of UN envoy Horst Kohler, to participate in the new round of direct negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco, planned in Geneva on 5 – 6 December,
announced Tuesday in New York, Algeria’s permanent representative to UN, Ambassador Sabri Boukadoum.
“Algeria, as a neighbouring country and official observer of the peace process, has immediately accepted the invitation of Envoy Kohler to a round table in Geneva on 5 – 6 December,” said Ambassador Boukadoum during a meeting of the UN Fourth Committee.
Algeria’s representative welcomed the positive responses of the two parties to conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco, which accepted to take part in these negotiations in good faith and without preconditions.
The United Nations (UN) Security Council, which met last Thursday in New York, reiterated its strong support to the UN Envoy for Western Sahara, Horst Kohler to hold a new round of direct negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco in Geneva, and called the two sides to engage in these talks in good faith and without preconditions.
