ALGIERS-Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum held a series of meetings with multiple counterparts on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 74), said Monday the Foreign Affairs Ministry
in a communiqué.
Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum had a meeting with his Tunisian counterpart, Khemeis Jhinaoui, during which the two ministers discussed “the political situation in the two countries and its current evolution in the light of the ongoing presidential elections in Tunisia and those scheduled in Algeria on December 12th,” said the source.
The two parties also stressed the need to “strengthen relations between the two countries, as Libya’s neighbours, with a view to resolving the crisis in this brotherly and neighbouring country.
The head of Algerian diplomacy also had a meeting with his Ivorian counterpart, Marcel Amon-Tanoh.
During their meeting, the two ministers decided to exploit all the existing potential, particularly in economic terms, and agreed to give a fresh impetus to the Algerian-Ivorian bilateral relations,” said the same source.
The Algerian Foreign Minister also met with the United States Under-Secretary for Political Affairs, David Hale.
“Bilateral relations in the political, economic and security fields, current issues in the Sahel region, including recent developments in Libya, Mali and Western Sahara were reviewed during this meeting,” added the source.
The Algerian Minister additionally had a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, during which the two ministers “welcomed the quality of the historical relationship and friendship binding Algeria and Turkey,” said the ministry.
Boukadoum and Mevlut Cavusoglu reviewed several issues related to “bilateral cooperation in the economic field, and addressed multiple regional and international issues, including “the situation in Syria and Lybia,” said the source.
The head of Algerian diplomacy also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italian Republic, Luigi Di Maio.
During their talks, the two ministers “reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation and prospects for its strengthening.”
Boukadoum also had a meeting with Kalla Ankourao, Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration and Nigeriens Abroad, with whom he discussed “security developments in the Sahel region.”
With regard to Mali in particular, Boukadoum and his Nigerian counterpart stressed the need to continue implementing the peace and national reconciliation agreement resulting from the Algiers process.”
As part of his discussions on the sidelines of his participation in the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Boukadoum met his counterpart from the Sultanate of Oman, Yussuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah.
The two ministers noted “relations of fraternity binding Algeria and Oman, highlighting the need for developping them.”
They also stressed the importance of “promoting the values of peace and respect in international relations” and, as such, stressed “the importance of preserving peace and security in the Gulf region and beyond.”
The two ministers expressed “their readiness to continue regular consultations on issues of common interest,” added the ministry.
Finally, the Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister held a meeting with Deputy Secretary General in charge of the United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov.
Throughout their discussions, the two parties agreed to reinforce bilateral relations bewteen the two countries, drawing on Algeria’s long experience in the fight against terrorism and de-radicalization,” the ministry added.
