YOKOHAMA (Japan)- 27 August 2019
Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum said Tuesday in Yokohama, Japan, that Algeria’s message for the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) focuses on the need for a win-win partnership between Japan and Africa.
In a statement, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting for the preparation of the TICAD7 (August 28-30), Boukadoum said “the message of Algeria in the summit focuses on the establishment of a win-win partnership,” noting that the African continent “should not be only a source for raw material.”
Africa has many partners worldwide, he said, adding that one of the challenges of the TICAD 7 is “the establishment of an effective and constructive partnership, allowing Africans to acquire some organizational and financial expertise in some fields set by experts, including invention, technology, irrigation and financing of transport in Africa.”
Boukadoum said the large number of heads of State and Government participating in the Yokohama summit shows “the importance of the event.”
The Algerian official greeted the “participation of all African Union members in the event, including the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR),” dubbing it a “great gain for Africa.”
In addition, the minister said cooperation between Algeria and Japan dates back to independence, mainly in oil and prospection, noting that there is a “regular consultation between the two countries in international fora.”
