Three eminent figures to receive Emir Abdelkader Award

ORAN (Algeria)- Three prominent and distinguished international figures, Algerian Lakhdar Brahimi, Spanish Federico Mayor and Canadian Raymond Chrétien are the first winners of the Emir Abdelkader award for “the promotion of living together and peaceful coexistence in the Mediterranean and in the world,”
which will be awarded Wednesday in Mostaganem.
This award, initiated by the international NGO AISA, the Mediterranean Foundation for sustainable Development, Djanatu al-Arif and the MED 21 programme aims at promoting the culture of peace and living together. It is awarded to figures who significantly contributed, through their actions, to the practice of living together and the strengthening of peaceful coexistence between the peoples, social groups and individuals.
It is in this perspective that the winners of this prize were designated. The prominent Algerian diplomat Lakhdar Brahimi will represent the Mediterranean Southern shore.
Former head of the Algerian diplomacy, ambassador, special representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and international mediator of the UN, assistant secretary general of the Arab League, Brahimi gained a considerable experience in the settlement of conflicts in the world, in Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, Lebanon and most recently, in Syria.
Spanish Federico Mayor is the winner of the Northern Mediterranean shore. Former minister, former Director General of the UNESCO and co-founder of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, he is also president of the Foundation for a Culture of Peace.
Finally, the third winner representing the rest of the world is Canadian Raymond Chretien, honorary ambassador of Canada, former Canadian ambassador to the U.S., he is a member of the Trudeau Foundation, a Canadian independent and non-partisan charity, and he is President of the International Observatory of Mayors Living Together.
