ROMA- The Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel presented the Algerian approach in terms of counterterrorism and violent extremism and its experience in the field of de-radicalization and thus,
as part of his participation to the Roma-Mediterranean dialogue conference taking place in Roma from 30 November to 2 December 2017.
Messahel underlined that in the current regional context, “terrorism continues to represent one of the biggest threats to the security of an increasing number of countries,” adding that “despite DAESH’s current defeat, which is a significant progress, it however remains a partial victory in the fight against this global scourge which is unfortunately strengthening in many other parts of the world.”
“Algeria’s contribution firstly underlines that a military defeat of DAESH does not mean its absolute defeat and its disappearance because its cells worldwide will survive to the loss of territories and will represent as many sources of threats that call for a more structured, more assertive bilateral, regional and international cooperation and that takes into consideration the security concerns of all the countries and all the regions in the world,” he added.
He recalled, in this regard, that Algeria “will spare no effort in this way for its own security and so that other people will not experience the horrors that terrorism imposed on its own people in the 90s.”
Secondly, the “Algerian contribution underlines that this terrorist organization recruited tens of thousands of young people, coming from hundreds of countries worldwide.”
