Parliamentary delegation meets in Washington with members of Congress

WASHINGTON (U.S.)- A delegation of the Algerian parliament met Thursday, in Washington, several members of the American congress, with whom they broached the development of relations between Algeria and the U.S. as well as issues of common interest.
The delegation that took part in the National Prayer Breakfast, organized by the Congress and to which President Donald Trump was present included Senator Hafida Benchehida, the Deputy Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Djamel Bouras, the spokesperson of the RND Seddik Chiheb and the president of the Algeria-American Parliamentary Friendship Group Abdelkrim Meheni.
The three meetings held with Republican senator from Oklahoma Jim Inhofe, and the two Democrat congressmen and members of the Group of Friends of Algeria within the American Congress Joseph Kennedy and John Conyers, allowed broaching the prospects of development of the bilateral relations, particularly the United States’ support for investment and the process of national economic diversification.
During these meetings, the democratic progress made by Algeria was highlighted, crowned by the revision of the Constitution, which established the bases of the Rule of Law and the guarantees for the protection of citizens’ freedoms.
In the same regard, the important role of the high independent authority for elections in the establishment of democratic process was also broached.
