Ould Khelifa: Algeria, France work to together to raise level of exchanges

ALGIERS-Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa stressed Wednesday Algeria and France worked together to raise the level of their exchanges in an environment marked by security challenges and rampant political changes.
“The Algeria-France relations have noticed a remarkable progress over the last ten years following the high-level visits exchanged between the two countries,” the Assembly said in a communiqué quoting Ould Khelifa who the Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly, Elizabeth Guigou.
Ould Khelifa referred to the positive results he witnessed following previous talks with the speaker of the National Assembly and other officials. According to him, these meetings revealed a great understanding and a common willingness to promote multifaceted bilateral cooperation, added the communiqué.
In this regard, Ould Khelifa underscored the importance of implementing the agreements signed under the High bilateral committee that represents one of the main spaces for parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
As regards the security situation, the same official recalled Algeria had fought alone and throughout a decade against terrorism but became today a source of security and stability, and a space that welcomes refugees and migrants from regions shaken by crisis and tension.
“Algeria encourages dialogue as the only mean that favours convergence of views between antagonists in Mali, Libya and Syria,” affirmed Ould Khelifa, who reiterated his appeal to allow the Palestinian people exercise their rights under the two-state solution, added the communiqué.
For her part, Guigou affirmed French Mps followed with interest Algeria’s efforts to safeguard peace and security in the region, highlighting the importance of consultation between Algeria and France as both countries face common challenges, particularly terrorism.
France hails Algeria’s efforts to find peaceful and sustainable solutions to crisis in the region, especially its successful mediation in the settlement of the Malian crisis,” said the Guigou, stressing these efforts allowed both countries avoid the impact of the security crisis in the region.
Besides, the French official called for support Sahelo-Saharan countries to help them overcome their crisis. She paid tribute to Algeria for its support to some countries in the region, like Tunisia, to surmount difficulties and preserve their security.
