ORAN-The 7th edition of the International fishing and aquaculture exhibition kicked off Thursday at the Convention Centre in Oran, in the presence of Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing Abdelkader Bouazgui.
Seventy-seven national exhibitors, 35 foreign exhibitors, 10 international organizations and 10 public institutions take part in the exhibition, which aims to be an economic event meant for professionals and the public.
While visiting the stand of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), the minister stressed that the exhibition is an opportunity for this institution to take advantage of successful fishing experiences and projects presented at the exhibition.
The minister also called on exhibitors to note information and concerns, which will be discussed during a round-table between Arab countries, with a view to developing and broadening these successful experiences to other countries.
For his part, Advisor to Chairman of AOAD Ahmed Salem El Ahmed stressed the need to enhance cooperation between Arab countries, and consider the creation of a commercial space allowing Arab fish-producing countries to export their surplus to other Arab countries instead of shipping them to European countries.
The exhibition brings together fishing and aquaculture operators, fry and farmed fish feed producers, companies specializing in fish packaging, fishermen and suppliers of equipment.
It also includes conferences, workshops and forums on various themes, including the development of fishing and aquaculture, aquaculture activity zones, the sector’s strategy, maritime security and training.
In parallel with the exhibition, the 4th biennial conference of the parties to the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the adjacent Atlantic Area (ACCOBAMS) will be held.
