PARIS (France)- Young novelist Samir Toumi received Wednesday at the National Book Centre, in Paris, the France-Algeria Association Award for his latest book “L’effacement” (self-effacing).
The 215-page fiction novel (Barzakh Edition, 2016) is about the erring ways of a forty-year-old tormented man, living under the domination of his father and suffering from this situation.
In an address, the association’s chairman Jean-Pierre Chevenement said literature is a “strong” link that allows the French and the Algerians to reconcile and build a common future.
Toumi stressed the cultural booming in Algeria, dubbing it “good news,” and noting that co-publishing, co-editing and film co-production between Algeria and France is part of an “irreplaceable” flow of exchange.
“Our association seeks to get a fruitful dialogue between our two societies, who have a lot to tell each other.”
The ceremony took place in the presence of men and women of culture, literature, members of various associations, and the members of the jury that awarded the prize.
