ALGIERS- Algeria and Mali have signed, Sunday in Bamako (Mali), a memorandum of understanding on the creation of an Algerian-Malian business council, said the Ministry of Trade in a statement on Monday.
The document was inked on the sidelines of a working visit of Trade Minister Mohamed Benmeradi to Mali, leading an official delegation and 89 economic operators to participate in 12th Bamako International Trade Fair and Exhibition, FEBAK (13-29 January).
Algeria is the guest of honour of this year’s edition, which was opened by Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
On the day after the official opening, Benmeradi was received by the Malian Minister of Finance who reiterated the need to develop economic cooperation, said the Ministry’s statement.
During the discussions, the two sides focused on issues related to the financial guarantee of transactions, especially the financial guarantees of Malian banks for Algerian investments in the energy field
On Sunday afternoon, a business forum opened with the participation of more than two hundreds of Algerian and Malian economic operators, in presence of Benmeradi and his Malian counterpart.
In their addresses, both ministers underlined the need to boost the volume of trade, which falls short of political commitments of the two States and the aspirations of the two peoples,” added the Ministry’s statement.
On Saturday, Benmeradi, accompanied by his Malian counterpart, was received by Mali’s Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga, then by Mali’s Foreign Minister Tieman Hubert Coulibaly, and Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, to who he conveyed a message of friendship from President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika and reiterated Algeria’s commitment to further strengthening relations between the two countries.
