Messahel starts working visit to Niger

NIAMEY – Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel has arrived, Monday in Niamey (Niger), for a working visit, during which he will participate in the ninth ministerial meeting of Libya’s neighbouring countries on Wednesday.
Messahel, who is carrying a message from President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika to his Nigerien counterpart Mahamadou Issoufou, will hold discussions with Niger’s senior officials focusing on bilateral cooperation and issues of common interest.
The Minister will partake Wednesday in the works of the ninth ministerial meeting of Libya’s neighbouring countries. The meeting will address several issues related to the situation in the region, which is facing terrorism, organized crime, drug and arms trafficking as well as illegal migration.
It will be also an opportunity to examine the current situation in the light of the recent developments in Libya and the ongoing national, regional and international efforts for the resolution of the crisis in the country.
Initiated by Algeria, the mechanism of Libya’s neighbouring countries comprises Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Chad and Niger, in addition to representatives of the United Nations, the African Union and the Arab League.
