Messahel partakes in extraordinary Summit of AU’s Peace, Security Council devoted to South Sudan

NEW YORK- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel, representative of the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika took part in the extraordinary Summit of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council devoted to the situation in the Republic of South Sudan.
Chaired by the Egyptian head of State Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, as president of the Peace and Security Council for the current month, this meeting, held on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly assessed the latest development is South Sudan.
The difficulties hindering the implementation of the Conflict Settlement Agreement and the efforts made to restore peace and security in this country were at the centre of the works of this summit.
Speaking in the debate, Messahel said that it is the South-Sudanese stakeholders’ responsibility to do everything to settle the ongoing conflict, adding that the future of South Sudan only concerns the South Sudanese.
In this regard, he underlined that all process leading to peace and stability or all chaotic situation leading this young republic towards dismantling is a vital issue for this African nation.
In this regard, he recalled that Algeria, as a member of the Peace and Security Council and the IGAD, favours the political solution based on national reconciliation.
