Messahel broaches with Guterres situation in Mali, Libya and Western Sahara

BAMAKO- Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel broached Wednesday, in Bamako, with the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres the situation in Mali, Libya and Western Sahara.
This meeting was held on the sidelines of the working visit paid by Foreign minister to Mali.
Concerning Mali, Messahel reiterated Algeria’s commitment to the stability in Mali and the implementation of Bamako Agreement on peace and reconciliation in Mali that Algeria has facilitated in its capacity as leader of the international mediation.
In this regard, he emphasized the importance and role played by UN Integrated Multidimensional Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in its efforts to stabilize Mali.
He added that Algeria is making major efforts to speed up the implementation of the Agreement starting from its constant commitment to the return of stability and security to Mali.
“The regular meetings of the follow-up committee on the implementation of the peace and reconciliation Agreement in Mali, that Algeria chairs, show our commitment,” added Messahel.
Concerning the situation in Libya, the minister reaffirmed Algeria’s position in favor of the efforts of the United Nations and its special envoy for Libya Ghassane Salame and all efforts aimed at implementing its action plan and roadmap.
While broaching the issue of Western Sahara, Messahel reiterated Algeria’s position in favor of the efforts of UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy for Western Sahara Horst Kohler to resume, as soon as possible, in good faith and without prerequisites, direct negotiations between the two sides to the conflict to reach a fair and mutually acceptable political solution that enables the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
He reiterated Algeria’s commitment to accompany, as a neighboring country, the efforts of the personal envoy Kohler.
Antonio Guterres thanked Foreign Affairs Minister for Algeria’s active role in its region and its continued support to the regional stability and security.
