Malmo Arab Film Festival: Lotfi Bouchouchi awarded best director prize

MALMO (Switzerland)- The Algerian Lotfi Bouchouchi has won the Best Director Prize of the 6th Malmo Arab Film Festival (MAFF) in Switzerland for his 90-mn film “Le Puits” (The Well), said the event’s organizers.
Lotfi Bouchouchi, who was competing along with eight others film directors in the category of feature-length film, will receive his prize Wednesday evening during the MAFF closing ceremony, according the Festival’s Facebook page.
Produced in 2015, The Well recounts the story of a village in southern Algeria and how its inhabitant, particularly women and children, had to choose the way they would die, because they were besieged for several days by the colonial army’s soldiers, who deprived them from drinking water.
The film was also awarded the prize for best feature film at the 9th Muscat International Film in the Sultanate of Oman, and four prizes at the 31st Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries in Egypt, including the prize for best Arab film.
In addition to the Grand Prize at the 5th Maghreb Film Festival of Oujda in Morocco and recently the prize for best film director at the 9th International Arab Film Festival of Oran, Algeria.
