PARIS (France)- The French and Algerian Heads of State, Emmanuel Macron and Abdelaziz Bouteflika maintain a “permanent dialogue” on the situation in the Sahel and in Mali,
source at the French presidency said Wednesday.
“The president has maintained with the Algerian authorities a permanent dialogue on the question of G5 Sahel and the situation in Mali.”
A briefing was held on the eve of a high level conference on the Sahel, planned on Friday in Brussels. The conference is meant to reinforce the international support, and chiefly finance the joint force G5 Sahel.
For the official at the Elysée who hosted the briefing, the dialogue between the two countries focuses on the political and operational segments.
“With every political and operational development (in the region), there have been contacts with the Algerian authorities and often contacts on the highest level,” he said, underlining Monday’s telephone conversation between Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Abdelaziz Bouteflika is part of the “continuity” of this dialogue.
“The phone conversation is a continuation of the ongoing dialogue that President Emmanuel Macron has with his Algerian counterpart, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, on the situation in Mali and the Sahel region,” he said.
President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, had Monday a telephone conversation with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, said a statement of the Presidency. The discussion “allowed the two Heads of State to share their analysis on the situation in Mali and Libya.”
The two Heads of State “have also examined the means to further strengthen the dynamics of the Algerian-French cooperation initiated during the summit that brought together the Algerian and French Presidents, in Algiers last December,” the same source added.
