ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel said Sunday, in Algiers, that Libya’s neighbouring countries should meet to discuss the ways to reach political settlement in the country.
“Libya’s neighbouring countries should meet soon in Tunis to coordinate” their efforts on the Libyan issue, said Messahel, who spoke at the end of his meeting with the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Khemaies Jhinaoui, who is on a working visit to Algeria, underlining that “the two sides agreed to continue their concentration,” on this issue.
“Libya’s neighbouring countries remain attached to this brotherly country’s unity and stability and an international consensus on the proposed political solutions,” added the minister.
Messahel said that he broached with Jhinaoui, the security situation in the region, particularly in Libya, noting “a convergence of views” on the need to settle the crisis in the country through the “installation, as soon as possible, of a national unity government which will be headquartered in Tripoli and will have large prerogatives to restore order in the country.”
The Tunisian official highlighted a “full convergence of Tunisian and Algerian positions and analysis,” ensuring that the two sides agree on the need to prioritize the political solution while bringing the Libyan brothers to find a solution.”
