Libyan crisis: Messahel holds talks in Brazzaville with UN special envoy for Libya

BRAZZAVILLE- Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel on Saturday held discussions in Brazzaville with UN Special Envoy for Libya, Ghassane Salame, on the sidelines of the 4th meeting of the AU High Level Committee on Libya.
Messahel is representing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in this meeting.
The discussions concerned the situation in Libya and the developments in this country, notably “the progress of the political UN-brokered process.”
Salame said that appreciated Algeria’s “continued” efforts for the resolution of the Libyan crisis, underlining that “such efforts have contributed to bringing closer the Libyan players.”
As for him, Messahel reaffirmed the Algerian position for a “political solution to the crisis in Libya, which must be based on inclusive dialogue and the national reconciliation,” as part of the UN –brokered political process, and “in a view to allowing Libya surmount the current challenges and recover security and stability.”
Besides, the minister reiterated Algeria’s willingness to “pursue its efforts aiming at supporting UN process for rapid and lasting settlement to the crisis.”
Messahel holds discussions in Brazzaville with Tunisian FM
Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel on Saturday has held discussions with his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui, on the sidelines of the 4th African Union High-Level Meeting on Libya, taking place in Brazzaville, Congo.
Messahel is representing President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika in the meeting, which has brought together African heads of state and government.
The discussions focused mainly on relations between Algeria and Tunisia as well as means and ways to strengthen and broaden them for the benefit of the two countries.
It was also an opportunity for the two sides to underline the convergence of positions of Algeria and Tunisia, both neighbour countries of Libya, on the crisis in that country, and their support for rapid political solution through an inclusive dialogue and national reconciliation.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation between the two countries through the different mechanisms, including those of neighbouring countries and tripartite (Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt) as well as the AU High Level Committee on Libya, with a view to supporting efforts for political solution to crisis in the brotherly and neighbouring country.
