ALGIERS- Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum’s visit to Libya, on Wednesday, as part of his African trip, was an opportunity during which he reiterated Algeria’s position for a political settlement
to the crisis in that neighboring country, through an inter-Libyan dialogue leading up to “the building of legitimate and unified institutions.”
The latest developments in this neighboring country, the prospects of the political settlement process facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, as well as the bilateral relations between the two countries, were at the centre of a series of meetings Boukadoum held with Libyan officials during his one-day visit to Tripoli.
Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum said on Thursday that his meeting with the President of the Libyan High Council of State on Wednesday, Khaled Al-Mechri, was an opportunity to highlight the importance of the political settlement of the crisis in Libya and to commend Algeria’s efforts to establish stability in that country.
During his talks with a number of Libyan officials in Tripoli, including the head of the Presidential Council of the Libyan Government of National Union, Fayez Al-Sarraj, Boukadoum reiterated “Algeria’s consistent and supportive position with the Libyan people since the beginning of the crisis.”
The Algerian position calls for a “political settlement, through an inter-Libyan dialogue, leading to the establishment of legitimate and united institutions, resulting from fair and transparent elections guaranteeing the unity of the Libyan people and its sovereignty over all its territories.”
