ALGIERS- Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum said Thursday that his discussions with the head of the Libyan High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mechri, on Wednesday was an opportunity to put
forward the importance of a political settlement of the Libyan crisis and stress Algeria’s efforts for the restoration of stability in that country.
The Foreign Minister, in a post published on his official Twitter account, stressed that “his meeting with the president of the Libyan High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mechri, and members of the Council made it possible to highlight “the importance of the political settlement,” just as it was an opportunity to commend Algeria’s efforts to “restore stability in this brother country.”
The Foreign minister, in a meeting with the head of the Presidential Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, on Wednesday in Tripoli, reiterated Algeria’s position for a political settlement of the crisis in this neighboring country, through inter-Libyan dialogue that would lead to “the building of legitimate and united institutions.”
During his talks with a number of Libyan officials in Tripoli, Boukadoum expressed “Algeria’s consistent and supportive position with the Libyan people since the beginning of the crisis.”
“A position calling for the imperative of reaching a political settlement, through an inter-Libyan dialogue leading to the establishment of legitimate and united institutions, resulting from fair and transparent elections guaranteeing the unity of the Libyan people and its sovereignty over all its territories,” said a statement by the ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier, Boukadoum held discussions with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hammouda Siala, and members of the Council.
He also held extensive discussions with his counterpart in the Libyan Government of National Union, Mohamed Taher Siala, with whom he broached the latest developments in Libya and the prospects of a UN-led political settlement process in that country.
