ALGIERS-Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra is to partake in the high-level General Debate of the 76th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly scheduled
for 20-28 September 2021 in New York, said the ministry in a communiqué.
“Under the chairmanship of Abdulla Shahid, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, this session is themed “”Building resilience through hope – to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainability, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalize the United Nations,” the ministry.
“In the face of the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the persistence of a complex and volatile geopolitical context, this session provides a special opportunity for Member States to reiterate their commitment to multilateralism and international solidarity, to discuss ways to address current shortcomings and to establish a system of an inclusive, fair and equitable global governance,” said the source.
“On the sidelines of the General Debate, Lamamra will take part in several conferences and high-level meetings, including a ministerial meeting on the peace process in Libya, a joint meeting between the Troika of the Arab Summit and the Security Council, a Summit on the food system, a High-Level Dialogue on Energy, the 12th Ministerial Conference on Facilitating Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and a commemorative meeting of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action of the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance,” said the Foreign Ministry’s communiqué.
“Lamamra will also hold talks with the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and the President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid on issues related to international peace and security and the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the ongoing processes of reform of the United Nations,” said the source.
“The FM will also hold talks with several counterparts from UN member states on bilateral issues and regional and international issues of common interest,” said the source.
