ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra paid on Monday a working visit to Pretoria, as part of the periodic political consultations between Algeria and South Africa
and in anticipation of the next bilateral events, the ministry said in a statement.

“At the invitation of his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra paid a visit to Pretoria as part of the periodic political consultations between the two countries and in anticipation of the next bilateral events,” said the source.

On this occasion, the minister had one-on-one discussions with his South African counterpart, broadened then to the delegations which stressed the historical and privileged relations between the two countries and peoples as well as the two countries’ willingness to strengthen their strategic character as part of the completion of the preparations for the 7th High Joint Committee which will be held in Algeria under the chairmanship of the two heads of State, Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother Cyril Ramaphosa who will soon pay a State visit to Algeria,” added the source.

“The two sides discusses issues of common interest at the continental and international levels, notably the current crisis in the international relations against a background of the conflict in Ukraine, the decolonization of Palestine and Western Sahara as well as the security and peace situation in Africa in the light of the objectives of the Agenda 2063 of the African Union (AU),” the statement said.

The two sides underlined with satisfaction the convergence of views and positions between the two countries on the basis of their commitment to the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and AU Constitutive Act, in addition to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement,” added the statement.

The two ministers agreed also to continue and strengthen the coordination as part of the ministerial meetings that will be held in anticipation of the next African Union Summit,” the statement concluded.
