ALGIERS- The national hydrocarbon group SONATRACH has signed, Thursday in Algiers, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iraq’s Ministry of Oil, with the aim to strengthen partnership between the two countries,
said the Group in a communiqué.
The document was inked by the CEO of SONATRACH, Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, and the representative of Iraq’s Oil ministry, Dhiya Kamar Safar, said the statement.
The MoU aims at “strengthening partnership between the two countries, by sharing Algeria’s expertise in the fields of exploration, pipeline transport and engineering as well as by contributing to the strengthening of industrial infrastructures in Iraq.
It also shows the two sides’ willingness to develop a mutually beneficial cooperation and partnership in the field of hydrocarbons, said the communiqué.
Safar’s visit to Algeria was an opportunity to discuss the possible participation of SONATRACH in the development of the Nasiriya oilfield in Iraq.
The two sides also examined possible participation of the national electricity and gas company SONELGAZ and the national company for petroleum products marketing and distribution NAFTAL, subsidiaries of SONATRACH group, in the extension of the gas pipeline system in order to supply Iraqi towns with natural gas and LPG.
Safar’s visit to Algeria follows that made, on 8 January 2018 to Iraq, by an Algerian delegation led by Minister of Energy Mustapha Guitouni, accompanied by the CEO of SONATRACH Group.
