ALGIERS- Hungarian mezzo-soprano Klara Csordas gave Monday night in Algiers a lyrical music concert dedicated to the great composer Bela Bartok, whose part of the work is a real cultural bridge between Algeria and Hungary.
Organized at the Aissa-Messaoudi Auditorium of the Algerian Radio, the concert entitled “Musical Encounters of Handel to Bartok,” invites to contemplate Hungarian pianist-composer Bela Viktor Janos Bartok (1881-1945), pioneer of Ethnomusicology.
Attracted by the beauty and the musical heritage of the city of Zibans (Biskra), Hungarian pianist composer lived there in 1913, where he was inspired by the city’s traditional music. He composed and recorded some 250 “rolls” (cylindrical holders whose engraving is the inscription of acoustic signals).
“Several parts of Bela Bartok, like ‘Microcosm’ and many others are inspired by the popular music of Biskra,” said Ambassador of Hungary in Algeria, Helga Katalin Pritz, present at the concert, adding that the work of the great composer was “a bridge between the Algerian and Hungarian cultures.”
The mezzo-soprano Klara Csordas, accompanied on piano by compatriot Miklos Harazdi took the large audience to a dreamlike journey.
During 70 minutes, the artists performed works by famous universal opera composers like Ombra mai fu/Serse by Georg Friedrich Haendel, Voi che sapete/Les noces of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Habanera/Carmen of Georges Bizet, I feel pretty/West side story by Léonard Bernstein and Summertime/Porgy and Bess de Gorge Gershwin.
The lyric concert “Musical Encounters of Handel to Bartok” is organized by the Hungarian Embassy in Algeria, in collaboration with the Algerian Radio.
