ALGIERS-Representative of the Palestinian Hamas Movement Mohamed Athmane on Thursday hailed Algeria’s position on the dangerous Israeli escalation in Gaza, calling it a forward-thinking compared to other Arab countries.
Guest of “Khalf El-Mechehed” (Behind the Scene), a programme produced by APS, the Hamas representative said the position of Algerian leaders on the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip “is forward-thinking” compared to other Arab countries, a position that Algeria has always adopted in favor of Arab causes including the Palestinian one.”
Commenting on President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s message, in which he denounced the abject crime committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian civilians, Athmane recalled that Hamas perceived in this message a direct denunciation of Israel’s policy and a call to stop inhumane practices against Palestinians.”
He also welcomed the “rapid response” expressed by President Bouteflika to the convening on Friday of an extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the situation in Gaza, dubbing Algeria’s positions “constants.”
In a message sent by the Head of State to the President of the State of Palestine, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Mahmoud Abbas, Algeria condemned “the crime Abject “perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian civilians near the border of the Gaza Strip, reiterating Algeria’s “steadfast” stance in favour of the Palestinian people.
Algeria is the first country to respond to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s call for an OIC Extraordinary Summit Friday in Istanbul (Turkey) on the recent developments in Palestine.
President Bouteflika designated Speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper House) Abdelkader Bensalah to represent him at the Summit.
