DUBAI – Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dubaï Ports World Group (DP World) Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said Wednesday in Dubaï that the Group is interested by the Algerian market,
particularly the projects of logistics platforms that Algeria plans to launch the Grand South to boost exports towards Africa.
Bin Sulayem said during a meeting with Commerce Minister Said Djellab at the Dubai-based headquarters of the Group, that the DP World Group working in Algeria for years (ports of Algiers and Jijel) seeks to enlarge its investments in the field of dry port creation in accordance with Algeria’s plan to create logistics platforms to boost its exports to the African countries.
On that occasion, the official expressed willingness to consider the proposals with the Algerian authorities.
“We seek to expand our activities in Algeria through the investment in the logistics platforms and our activities will not be limited to the ports management…, as the great momentum of the Algerian economy requires infrastructures allowing the development of trade,” added the official.
“We have logistics bases in several African countries such as Dakar (Senegal), Bamako (Mali) and Kigali (Rwanda). Algeria intends to access markets in those markets. We also think we are cooperating with Algeria to connect logistics platforms with these countries to accelerate the flow of goods and save effort and money “.
Calling Algeria’s business climate “motivating” and “promising” from the experience of the DP World group in Algeria, Bin Sulayem called on operators in his country to invest more in Algeria, a country that “offers opportunities that are rarely found in many countries around the world”.
